So, seeing as it is that time of the year again, I was wondering what Dumpers consider to be their favorite Christmas-themed movie. Are you down with the old stop-motion Rudolph movies? Charlie Brown Christmas specials? What's your poison? My personal favorites are Bad Santa (RIP Bernie Mac), and the 1951 classic, A Christmas Carol, featuring Alistair Sim (none of that colourized bullshit, y'all, only black and white for this one!). So, which ones do you guys like? Or hate? The best Christmas movie is "A Christmas Story" about young Ralphie and his journey to get a Limited Edition Red Ryder BB Gun. But if you don't like that one, the stop motion "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" with the villainous Burger Meister Meister Burger is pretty good too. Also, because I'm a little girl, "A Miracle on 34th Street."

My mom doesn't get why A Christmas Story is a classic movie. I said, simply, because it's called "A Christmas Story", and not something like "Kids Wish for the Darndest Things", or "Ralphie Gets His Gun".
... She found "Ralphie Gets His Gun" to be hilarious, for some reason.

So maybe my opinion isn't as objective as you thought ;D Also, while Groundhog Day (my favorite non-Ghostbusters Bill Murray movie) took place on well..Groundhog Day...it has a real Decembery holiday vibe..and is awesome

OG, did you like Kingpin? ;D
Oh yeah, Groundhog day is DEADLY! One of my faves of his, too! I just finished watching Stripes a while back, too, not bad!

Groundhog day is one of my favorite movies ever. Not just of his but in general. LOVE it Stripes always comes on late.....and i never stop watching it. It will come on at 4am like clockwork one week night and i refuse to turn it off. I'll stay up to watch it in its entirety cause its a masterpiece and its just so RELAXING to watch I don't always remember it when asked to give my favorite movies but when i see it on, im always like: "Yes, this one of my favorites!" Kingpin is really good but I feel like I have to be in the mood to watch it. I feel like sometimes it drags for me but other times its just right. Whereas I can watch Stripes and Groundhog Day at like any moment

So, um... This movie, The Wrestler, with Mickey Rourke? At the Movies (with Ebert and Roper) said it's the best movie of the year, and said Rourke's performance was Oscar-worthy. The American Film Institute has named The Wrestler as one of their top ten films of 2008. And Penn Jillette (Penn & Teller) posted the following update on Twitter today: "You can forget about Slumdog, Frost/Nixon, Milk -- they're all good movies, but The Wrestler. Wow! Nothing has ever been more real."
So, uh... Sounds pretty decent. It doesn't seem to have a set opening date, cuz it's out in some markets but won't be in others until February. But, sounds like it'll be worth a watch when it drops.

Yeah, for some reason my asshole-in-the-snow of a city seems to get early "test market" releases of movies, and I'm hoping The Wrestler shows up here, soon! It's really the only thing I'm even marginally looking forward to in terms of movies. PS: Another loosely Christmas related favorite of mine is The Ice Harvest (with John Cusack, BB Thorton, and an awesome performance by Oliver Platt). If you haven't seen this movie yet, you need to get off of your ass and do so at once!

Wanted
Pretty good action flick. Started out a bit Office Space-esque, but then turned into an action shooter movie. A few laughable ideas to push the story forward, but an overall good movie which I would recommend.

I don't know if you guys have seen it or not yet (it's been around for a while, but I just saw it yesterday), but City of God (Cidade de Deus) is pretty friggin amazing! Lots of "did I really just see that" moments, and it can be a bit depressing, but it's really worth taking the time to watch.
