Oh, maaan. Awe-some.
I was at Wal-Mart and I saw a JCVD four-pack with TimeCop, Street Fighter, and some other shit. I almost bought it just cuz of Street Fighter.

Can anyone help me out with this? I get this Facebook message from Crystal's sister asking me if I know the title of the movie she is describing. The info is somewhat vague, I have no actors to go by but it does sound familiar.
I'm just going to post this as is so ignore the grammer.

I've still never seen that...
Anyway, I saw Max Payne.
I am Jack's unbelievable disappointment.
I had such high hopes for the movie (see original post), but, it just never delivered. Aside from the tripped-out Valkyrie stuff, the movie was a pretty cliché noir cop movie, generic down to the reveal of the real bad guy. As an action movie, it never gets off the ground. All the action scenes end abruptly, before they get good. As a movie based off an action game, it fails to convey both the story and the action - it hits the story notes (abridged, of course, as the crime family from the game is never mentioned in the movie) but just...
Well, okay. Max Payne (the game) was made as a cop-off of John Woo films (which is probably why Stranglehold feels so much like Max Payne (the game)). But, for whatever reason, they took the movie in a different direction. They have a couple "bullet time"-esque scenes, but nothing mind-blowing or even really awesome. Most of it is just slow-motion or something weak like that. No awesome "follow the bullet as it buries itself into a guy's skull" or anything like that.
It's a decent watch, but, I'd wait 'till it comes out on DVD. There's supposed to be an R-rated cut of the movie on DVD, which would make sense since it was a frickin' M-RATED GAME, but also because you can go to one of those RedBox things and rent it for $1.

ANyone seen Sukiyaki Western Django (Miike stuff)? I figured someone here might have seen it, and I'm wondering if it's worth a rent or not? Thanks.

max payne sucked.
I had higher hopes for it, too.
for a guy who spent hours slow-mo jumping and nailing perps through the head from across a street, well, shit.
as said, no action movie to speak of. just a story. there's betrayal and scary stuff and things like that... and there's shooting, but again, not enough.
they need to rip off Max Payne 2 for another movie.
I was a tad miffed that the storyline had the same names but an almost completely different story.
I mean, I really liked the story in the game, and I was pissed that the lady who played the Aesir CEO - who looks almost dead on to the person depicted in the game - had only bit parts, when she's so fucking important to the story. in particular, the idea of the gritty criminal underworld was almost completely glossed over. I guess it was easier to put that hot chick from Hitman in a role that didn't exist and waste time with that.
oh well. least I didn't pay for tickets.

I didn't even realize that it was the hot chick from Hitman. She's also the new Bond girl, so, there's that (Daphne from Heroes is in the movie, too).
But, yeah. Movie was a total let-down. Especially since the fucking trailers were so awesome.

I didn't know people still had high expectations going to watch a movie based off a game.

Why wouldn't they? Sure, a bunch have been bad, but there've been some good ones, too. Just like comics-based movies. You always hope there'll be one that finally makes up for crap like Super Mario Bros or Captain America.
It's just like movies in general. Some are good, some are shit.
Max Payne looked like it was gonna be good. It's a real shame it wasn't.

As soon as I saw the Max Payne PG 13 rating, I decided I wasn't interested. The game was a gong-show, and PG13ing that story is akin to calling Barney and Friends episodes hardcore porn. The ads looked cool, so I guess they did their job, but the movie was really that bad?

So, our "buddies" at IGN have the opening 10+ minutes of the upcoming Resident Evil: Degeneration movie right here (is the first part; the second part is an age-restricted clip that follows, but you should watch them in order anyway, duh). They're the CGI movies that're actually based off of the games and not the Paul W. S. Anderson-helmed monstrosities. It looks kinda plasticy, but otherwise good.

I have to say the previews for that movie intrigued me. Do you have to watch the first to understand/enjoy the second? Cause I do want to watch the second but the first didn't look interesting to me.
