Smith/Lawler was the fight I was looking forward to the most tonight, and I was CHOKED to see it end with the accidental I-GOUGE! What did y'all think about Kimbo/James "The Ear" Thompson? The fight with Smith/Lawler had some interesting similarities to Griffin/Bonnar 1 but unfortunately didn't end the same way. Here you have the first show on a major network (similar to TUF 1 Finale being the first show on a cable network), two guys totally busting out in a striking war (similar to Griffin/Bonnar) and even the head of the promotion giving both guys equal pay (like Dana giving Griffin and Bonnar the contracts). Its just too bad this fight ended this way otherwise I think it would have been a HUGE deal for MMA in general and likely would have had Dana pooping his pants. This fight was SO close but so far. As for Kimbo/Colossus, I was disappointed at the ending at first. But after hearing that it was cause Colossus' ear was hanging off (as opposed to just bleeding as I initially thought), I realized the stop was for the best. Having his ear get ripped off is bad as it is, but it could have gotten much worse. I can definitely say that BOTH guys impressed me though. Kimbo's ground game appeared pretty good for someone with his level of experience. Other then getting caught defenseless in the end of the second round (when its arguable that the fight could have ended by stoppage), I thought Kimbo did very well on the ground. And Thompson showed that he could be a force doing things OTHER then the Juggernaut strategy ;D I just hope he gets that ear looked at and it doesn't hurt his health and career. Overall, I really enjoyed the show. I haven't seen a full MMA show in a while so it was nice to see a bunch of matches to begin with. Additionally, they were GOOD matches, all of them were AT LEAST good. Some were very good to GREAT. Its just too bad both ma in event matches that started great had those endings. But yeah, I'd be very happy to watch more from this promotion, especially on free tv!! I just hope the endings of the last two fights didn't hurt the company. I want to see more of them

Totally agreed Carano wasn't in her best shape (considering she was 3 weeks removed from American Gladiator) but she still showed a lot of skill and heart. I'd love to see her at her best and against some other top gals

Instead of MMA, I have CSI right now. Unrelated, I love CSI: Miami. I know it sucks, the writing is trite and predictable, but every damn time, this part just makes me smile. Lacky: Blah Blah, Murder Death Kill Blah Blah David Caruso as Horatio: Straight commentary. Removes sunglasses, regardless of time of day, location of murder/David Caruso as Horatio: Pun and or lame joke. The Who: YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!! I love the Soup, just because they mock that routine pretty much verbatim every episode. ps CSI: NY > Miami Lt. Dan as Mac > Horatio

I watched that EliteXC thing last night; it was my first real MMA show, and I thought it was pretty neat, coming from some one who hasn't really had much interest in the sport. I probably won't be ordering MMA PPVs, or getting better cable packages to watch them (they're on Showtime, right?), but if they ever get any more shows on channels I actually get, I'd love to watch'em. I really got into it, especially with the Smith/ Lawler "controversial" ending and all the Kimbo hype! Anyway, here's some of my "musings" about the show: - The girls' fight was pretty cool to see, especially since I've never really seen that "intense" of a women's match (that's what happens when WWE [and TNA, to an extent, but I don't follow them much anymore] is the only promotion you see that has a women's division @_@). I definitely became a fan of Carano, even though I've heard many saying she wasn't at her best last night. By the way, on American Gladiators, she's Crush, right? - Smith/ Lawler was pretty cool, but yeah, that ending was a bit disappointing. - Getting to the n event, first thing I wanted to say is, I don't know why, but I can't shake the feeling I've heard the name "Kimbo Slice" before... And it's weird, because again, I really haven't followed MMA, or anything like that, so I don't know where I might've heard about him... As for Thompson, what was up with his ear? I noticed that when he first came out; did something happen to him, or is his ear just naturally like that? Anyway, I think I've fallen into the "Kimbo hype", heh heh. He seemed pretty neat, and I remember one or two of his ground reversals that I, personally, found pretty impressive, but I was surprised the fight wasn't stopped at the end of round two. It almost felt a little worked to me, like they wanted to make sure Kimbo won out in the end to keep his hype going. So, yeah, I enjoyed it, overall. ^_^ I'd really love to see more MMA, but again, I don't think I'd pay to see it at this point.

I definitely became a fan of Carano, even though I've heard many saying she wasn't at her best last night. By the way, on American Gladiators, she's Crush, right? Yeah I think she's Crush. And I heard she wasn't at her best last night cause she was just 3 weeks removed from American Gladiators and not only had to cut about 20 pounds (which can take a lot out of you physically and mentally) but she was also somewhat distracted due to being busier these days. I think she put on a good display of what she was capable of though and was very impressed by her. Hopefully she comes to the next match looking to show more of what she can do. Though if I was her, I wouldnt show everything as you always want a few secret attacks stowed away ;D (aka Raging Demon). As for Thompson, what was up with his ear? I noticed that when he first came out; did something happen to him, or is his ear just naturally like that? Anyway, I think I've fallen into the "Kimbo hype", heh heh. So, yeah, I enjoyed it, overall. ^_^ I'd really love to see more MMA, but again, I don't think I'd pay to see it at this point. I think Thompson's ear is naturally like that. Some high level of "cauliflower ear" plus added damage to it from other sources. I hear he was a "debt collector" so he probably has seen his share of nasty fights. As the fight was happening, i felt the way you did. At the end of round 2, Kimbo looked gassed and helpless but he was allowed to hang on. And then to have the fight end so suddenly with the ear incident made it seem it was being officiated FOR Kimbo. But the more I thought about it, it really seemed that Thompson didn't have much power in those elbows at the end of round 2 and Kimbo was hanging on with no real problem. (similar to how Carano's opponent was kinda helpless at the end of the one of the rounds but was allowed to continue til she gave up in between rounds). And then the ear incident was a lot more grisly then I first realized. So while I can totally see where you are coming from for thinking some level of funny business went on, I now think there are some rational explanations for it...or at least, plausible ones. Glad you liked the show overall, it must have been exciting to watch your first MMA show. I haven't spent money on a PPV in a while but I love watching MMA on tv. So I'm hoping this can turn into a weekly or, at least, monthly show cause I'll definitely be watching this very often.

The booing pissed me off A LOT. I think there was more booing for this show than is typical for a UFC event (imagine if anything would have hit the ground?!?!). I've seen a few Elite XC events so far (and, they showed a pile of them all week leading up to last night on The Fight Network) and I don't remember ever hearing booing like that before, but I don't know if any of them were held in Jersey up till that point (if that makes a difference). I'm surprised that Elite XC billed Ferguson/Thompson as the " n event", especially when there was a title defence on the card. Smith/Lawler and Carano/Young fights were easily the highlights of the fights that were shown last night, and barring the I-Gouge, Smith/Lawler might have been a fight of the year candidate! I like Smith, and I know Lawler is finaly maturing and getting over his problems that he was dealing with back in the UFC, so I was really looking forward to the MW title defence (And, if you haven't seen Pete Sell vs. Scott Smith in the Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale, you might want to check it out HERE!). The Slice/Thompson fight was not a fight to hang an event on. Both guys are sub par MMA dudes at best, even though Thompson has wins over Don Frye and Hidehiko Yoshida, and because they're both such MONSTERS, they were certain to gas if the fight lasted longer than thirty seconds. I was really surprised that the fight wasn't stopped when Thompson was controlling from the top, even though his offence was PATHETIC (too gassed, I don't think he could have broken a gingerbread man with some of those strikes!), but I think the ref had his orders to keep things standing, and not call the fight unless Slice was on the attacking end of things. Kimbo's ground game surprised me a bit, but Thompson's pathetic loss of control positions also exposed how BAD he is on the deck. I dunno, that fight left a bad taste in my mouth, but Kimbo did show humility at the end in stating that he has "a lot to learn", so that, coupled with El Guapo's involvement in his training, gives me hope for his future in MMA! I really think the owner of Elite XC offered bonuses for fighters to stay standing and trade because no one wanted to take the fight down (with the exception of Carano who slapped a GOGOPLATA on Young, and none of the announcers called it!). The next CBS event will feature Yves Edwards and KJ Noons, so that will be a KILLER fight! I hope the put Charles "KRAZY HORSE" Bennett in the mix, too (that dude is crazy as FUCK!).

Next event already? I liked what I saw; when is the next event set to air?
I liked pretty much a bit of everything the show had to offer - I'd rather see decent strikers stay away from sub-par ground work, for certain - and the women's MMA fight was pretty cool, too; it had the McGirly excited as hell, but my VCR wasn't able to record it for her... I'm sure YouTube will be the hookup (if it isn't already) though.

Overall it was a pretty good card.
Match of the night IMO was the Arlovski match but I didn't see the whole show.
