Some financial aid doesn't require a payback.

Yeah, I don't believe this is the kind I need to pay back; I don't have any loans, or anything like that, it's pretty much just grants. Plus, I figure by the time I get my degree and get a good job, I probably won't have to stress too much about paying back, anyway.

That's kinda awesome - I'm a huge steampunk fan and FFVI is a big reason.
The only problem for me is that it's an RPG and I just have limited patience for them.
Still - this looks kinda cool:
I'm a big fan of "setting" games. A Vampyre Story pretty much sold me alone on the setting and other games have done the same. If the RPG gameplay can manage not to trip me up and slow me down here, I may give this a serious look when it comes out.

So, mini-review, here: Like Animal Crossing? Give Magician's Quest a go. It's basically the same type of game (right down to the "cutesy" chibi graphics), but it honestly feels like they took the Animal Crossing formula from Nintendo, and EVOLVED it (something Nintendo hasn't done much of doing with AC). You still have all the basic activities here; fishing, catching bugs, tending to plants, chatting with other wacky-looking villagers (one of mine is even a cell phone with limbs), etc. But this game takes it a step or two forward; while many villagers will recycle the same dialogue if you talk to them enough times, now they can even become your "best friend" or even your girlfriend/ boyfriend, depending on what gender you're playing as (although, I SWEAR one of my villagers is hinting that she's a lesbian... maybe it's actually a very effeminate-looking male character?). You can also spot the villagers talking about you and/ or other villagers behind your back. There's also more than one shop, now (it kind of reminds me of Animal Crossing Wii's city area), and at first, it can be kind of confusing as to what's what, and where to go to sell your stuff, but after a little bit if play time, you figure it out. No particular Nook-like character, though. The big addition, of course, is magic. You're basically living in a dorm room, and you attend magic school. At certain times of the day, you can go to the school and find a different teacher ready to give you a brief lesson on how to cast certain spells and incantations, and whatnot, and other various things in the Magician's Quest world. There's all kinds of little spells you can do (although, I've only just started playing, so the only one I know how to do right now is invisibility). Also, there's what's called "Magical Time"; basically, there are 52 "events" (one for each week of the year, although I think there's a way to do more than one per week) that have you doing unique little "quests". I haven't gotten to play any yet, but that sounds pretty intriguing. Some other little opinions: - You now have full access to all the tools (fishing rod, shovel, net, watering can, etc.) right off the bat; you don't have to buy them, as your magic wand can turn into any of them at will. - Fishing is a little bit harder than in Animal Crossing. You no longer see a dark object in the water to aim at, and instead, you have to look for little waves in the water that can be pretty tough to spot. - Two trivial things that slightly annoy me: 1) you can't just sell your bugs and fish as you catch them. You have to go to this game's equivalent of AC's museum and "register" each bug and fish (even if you've done so already), and you'll get an item based on how big said fish/ bug is, and then you can sell that item for cash. Only reason it's annoying is because you have to make a lot of unnecessary trips. 2) This one isn't that big of a deal, but you have no control of your character when walking on steps, whether in your village or in the school. So, if you get near steps, you character automatically walks up or down them. Just a little annoying. So anyway, if you don't like Animal Crossing, you probably won't enjoy this game very much, either. But if you're a fan, definitely look into Magician's Quest.

Hmm, was the Dump previously aware of THIS DS release? I can think of one or two Dumpers who might be interested in the game.

I might give it a try, but not expecting much from it since I've haven't play much of any of the Shin Megami Tensei games. Only about a few hours into Nocturne and that is it.

I never really liked the series, I tried playing 2 and 3, couldn't get into either.
tbh, it comes across as a pokeymans with a whole party at once instead of one fighting/five in ball. I don't mean it in a bad way - your party is just constantly rotating in order to keep everything levelled, and I hate games like that. guess I'm a classic rpg player, I just like getting one character and making them ubersweets.
the story seemed like a lot of awesome, tho. I just couldn't bear to sit and, well, play through the game. it has its moments, and there's some neat things that make up the gameplay, but as a whole, I detest the gameplay.
'course, I also like Too Human, and a month after I got it, there are still people who laugh at me when I say I like that game.
