The fact that you buy skills instead of learning them through levels and that you can't inherit skills from your pupils.

The fact that you ... can't inherit skills from your pupils. I don't like that. Not at all.

I wonder how the web browser will compare to the iPhones.
The music and photo parts don't really interest me much.
But I really wanted a browser on the current DS, I'm not sure if its worth spending $ on a new one though cause I had my eyes on an iPhone (my current phone sucks and is just about broken).
Its one of those "that sounds pretty cool but I don't think its the best deal for me" kinda things. But I certainly have my eyes open to see how this pans out. Especially with the downloadable games.

Yeah, I'm slightly interested in the new model, too, but not quite enough to want to go out and buy it on release. The camera is an interesting idea, I guess, but when it comes to music playback, I'd much rather have my iPod (with my 30+ gigs of music) with me than something that could only hold a small fraction of my music. The web browser is really cool, too, but I wonder what its limits will be; the Wii web browser, I noticed, can't seem to play certain videos on websites. Specifically, if I miss one of my favorite prime time shows, I like to go online and watch it, but I haven't had luck doing that on the Wii. That and the Wii browser seems painfully slow, in my experience; hopefully the DS browser wouldn't suffer the same way. The downloadable games are probably the most interesting thing, to me.
The biggest thing is, this model is probably the GBA Micro of this gen; a whole new handheld is probably on the way in about another year or two, and my guess is, it'll implement all these features but better. Maybe it'll have built-in storage space, maybe it'll allow the transfer of Virtual Console games over to it... It's probably better off just waiting for that handheld than getting the DSi.

This doesn't really interest me. The DS browser that they came out with was broken, and I seriously doubt that the built-in one will be much better. The DS just isn't made for surfing the web. The DSiWare thing sounds interesting, but I'm not prepared to drop my sparkly-new DS just for one that'll get more money out of me. And let's not forget that the lack of a GBA slot means that any games that require the second slot (like Guitar Hero: World Tour) will be un-playable on the system. So, let's call this thing for what it is; Nintendo is trying to appeal even more to a casual audience and trying to be an Apple-style all-in-one.

Soooo... After reading the info put out across Tokyo and San Fran's press thingies, I'm far more excited about Club Nintendo coming to the States than the new DSi.
Also, FUCKING BRAND-NEW PUNCH-OUT!!!!1

So, lets put it like this.
Apple has the iPod.
Nintendo, the DSi.
Maybe they should merge? We could have improper capitalization and casual audiences all up ins.
Nintendo's iWiillywishIhadmoregames?
Apple's DSi$texas?
That said, I'm surprised moto wasn't more excited for "Sin and Punishment 2".
Or, DS' "Virtual Console" style set up coming soon.

Oh, no. Very very excited for Sin and Punishment 2. I almost messed my pants. I'm just wholly unexcited for the DSi. I dunno. Maybe I'll have to get my hands on it to see if it's magic, you know?
A good bit of news came out of that, including the "Let's Play on Wii" titles, which are said to be GameCube games re-made for Wii (like Pikmin). Also a new Trace Memory for Wii, which might be cool.
WACKY STUFF IN TEH FUTURE!!1

A browser for the DS can't be that good, I'll believe it when I see it. It'll be as good as the PSP's browser tops, and the PSP's built in browser isn't that good to begin with.

What's Club Nintendo? Is it a place where everyone knows my name? Actually, yes. ... Well, when you register your games with Nintendo, you get a whole lot of nothing other than an entry into some inspecific contest to get a new game, right? With Club Nintendo, the games you register actually matter towards getting you free shit. Like, in Japan, if you bought the new Legend of Zelda DS game and registered it with Club Nintendo in the first couple days, you got a remake of the game Balloon Fight, with Tingle the manelf as the n character. As terrifying as that prospect is, the fact that they're giving away free games is worth Club Nintendo coming over. Also, I'm excited for Trace Memory 2, but I really wish it was for the DS instead of the Wii - it really used the ENTIRE DS in an intuitive fashion - EVERY PIECE of it. Except wifi. I think. I can't find my game. All in all, I'm pretty excited for what Nintendo's got on its plate.

Awesome, thanks for the info guys So i was reading a transcript of the interview with Reggie and this kinda pissed me off: So basically, Nintendo isn't going to give us what they see as better* just because what already exists is selling? I know it may seem like Business 101 but I have three issues with it: 1) I don't plan on getting the new DS for different reasons (as i said above) but what about someone who would DEFINITELY buy the DSi when it came out in Japan (and could have in America) but now has to wait? People who would absolutely LOVE the new DSi for the new features? Why are they being ignored? Will they just settle for the DS now- Spending their money and not getting fully what they want? Will they then be comfortable spending more money on the DSi when its out? will they have lost interest? There may be some demand left for new DS's (hardware wise) but a lot of the "hotness" of the product has kinda started to fade. The new DSi could combine the existing demand with the new features and be a much bigger deal then it would be next year. I realize these are just theoretical arguments here. 2) I'd blast any other company for saying the same thing and not expecting to get heat for it. Cause its completely anti-consumer for most of the market (again see * ). I'm not at all saying the DSi should be rushed, I never believe anything should be rushed when it comes to entertainment. But I can't accept the specific reason that Reggie is giving here as legitimate as I said above, OR pro-consumer. I hit Sony and EA on shit like this all the time and I didn't feel comfortable not doing it here. This would be a different story if neither US or Japan was getting it. But one market is getting it while the other is being ignored just cause there's still LARGE demand left for the older product. I'm sure there's still some demand in Japan too but it comes down to numbers, not ideals. And that irritates me. 3) If enough people see this as anti-consumer enough, this could hurt Nintendo's reputation. And reputation does matter as we've seen with Sony's early PS3 marketing reaction. Add in Nintendo's European gaffe earlier this year downplaying (or flat out ignoring) the hardcore market, and I'm starting to worry if they are getting more arrogant then they should be. *I mean, yes, the lack of GBA slot DOES make the DS superior to the DSi in many ways but i really don't see the GBA playing market as the one the DSi is trying to grab with music/photo capabilities. I'll admit this isn't a comprehensive argument but there's some merit to it.
