Yeah its funny cause its yet ANOTHER parallel of video games and wrestling. My two favorite hobbies and two industries that are still so very misunderstood and chided by the ma instream.
Whats especially ironic is how both industries are often degraded as juvenile and yet most "adults" don't know shit about how to comprehend them or are able to recognize how the strengths of each industry do not differ so much from other older, more popular/accepted forms of entertainment.
I think the 'confusing issue' of "is wrestling fake?" can be greatly reduced if people knew a thing about "Suspension of disbelief"...the same concept that allows them to discuss "Sopranos" or "24" for hours without fear their friends think they are fools for believing its real. Same goes for pro wrestling, folks!
Also, Vince took pro wrestling "out of the closet" years ago and proclaimed it wasn't legit competition. the reason he doesn't come on every broadcast and say "wrestling is fictional" is the same reason the cast of Friends didn't do it. Its ridiculous that they would have to! And yet, some people need their entertainment as simple and their view of the world as spoonfed as possible...

To even further push the "WWE is like Friends" analogy, many sitcoms use laughtracks because, well, after eight takes of a shot, the joke just isn't funny anymore - or the joke wasn't funny to begin with. WWE has taken the hint, and in some of its shows (mostly ECW and SmackDOWN!, since they have time to edit them), they'll 'sweeten' or edit the crowd reactions, that way they can try and 'trick' the home audience into beliving that the crowd is reacting the way the WWE wants them to.
