Controversial pro wrestler-slash-fighter Flip Thomas Staley was banned from MMA competition in the state of Nevada following a post-fight altercation with promoter D. White.
Staley, who's been known to keep to himself backstage at every event and has been mocked repeatedly for his pro wrestling ties, defeated "Dirty" Dingo Sanchez at :19 into the second round.
Staley suffered a low blow just moments before the end of the (rather dull, unexciting) first round, and at the beginning of the second, Staley came out of the corner swinging wildly, knocking Sanchez out and pouncing atop of him, raining down blows madly until the referee and members of the opposing corner's team climbed over the cage to separate the two men.
Reports at this point get shady, as Staley was escorted to the back for a meeting with White - reports have it as a conflict about money and safety, which is verified as Staley is quoted as saying, "If he wanted to stay safe, he shouldn't fight dirty!"
Tempers escalated, White asked Staley if he wanted to be, quote, "A FUCKING FIGHTER" and was promptly punched in the face. Fines were handed down by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, and bans have been placed to protect both fighters and promoters from Mr. Staley.
Quote Staley, "I can tell you the problem: Nobody wants to pony up the cash for a top tier fighter because they think I'm a joke - a pro wrestler turned fighter. In pro wrestling, I'm called too dangerous because I'm a fighter turned pro wrestler. I've always been about the money, honey, and ain't nobody paying up what I'm worth."
Staley burst onto the MMA scene with a shocking 1st round KO of then-undefeated MMA veteran Michael Clinton, and has since held a record of 2 wins, 1 loss (via split decision).
