Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy, and their son were found dead in their home this afternoon. Circumstances surrounding their death are being investigated by local authorities. The news of their deaths has just been confirmed on WWE.com. The news is devastating to all who knew him and words can't describe what I'm thinking right now. RAW tonight will be a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family. Details re n very sketchy regarding the tragic news today that Chris Benoit and his family were found dead at their Atlanta area home. Benoit had been scheduled to appear on a WWE house show on Saturday. Sources tell us Benoit called to first say he would be taking a later flight, and then to say he would not be attending the house show due to a family illness. According to one source, Benoit said both his wife and son were throwing up blood and he needed to stay to take care of them. At last night's Vengeance pay-per-view, Benoit was replaced in his match by Johnny Nitro. No other details are available at this time and police are on the scene at the Benoit residence investigating. (verified on wwe.com)

This is surreal man... I mean, I don't really really know how to say what I'm trying to say. I'm not taking this anymore personally than I have any other wrestler's death or anything, but it seems more unexpected to me for some reason, if that makes sense.

I can't believe I just woke up to this. This was literally the first news of the day for me.
This is a really really bad dream.
A whole f'n FAMILY, not just a wrestler. Something bad happened here, REALLY bad.
Benoit has been my favorite wrestler for years now, I even met the guy and he was nothing but class and seemed genuinely touched when I told him he was an inspiration to me. I just can't believe this happened.

Right now, they're replaying the Benoit/Burke match from last Tuesday.
I remember watching it last week, with a renewed interest in ECW cause of Benoit.
I didn't think that would be THE last live Benoit match I'd be watching, and here I'm watching it again thinking of that. This whole situation is a tragedy for so many reasons, but damn this is hitting me hard.

Just to note, I've heard that part about the family coughing up blood may be false. But, to be honest, I can't understand what takes out a whole family like that. I mean, it's no big surprise when wrestlers die, what with all the wear and tear on their body, but a whole family? It doesn't seem that they were murdered, or commit suicide, so I guess it HAD to be some kind of poisoning or illness. I don't mean this in any kind of morbid way, but I really want to know what happened, and how they died; what takes out a whole family like that, man?

I'm thinking maybe carbon-monoxide poisoning... no odor, taste, etc.
I'm hoping it was just something like that, a freak accident, and not something premeditated.

I hope all of that stuff in ~danthrax's post was bullshit.... It would be fucking sad if it was a murder/suicide... Fucking hell. I copypasta'd it from the n post in an LJ group, so some of it may very well be false. However I made sure the first portion (and the death itself) were verified by visiting wwe.com. I originally noticed it on his wikipedia entry. And you can't trust some of that shit. Just tried to get it up here quickly before everyone ran to watch wrasslin' tonite.

www.abcnews.go.com/Sports/story?id=3315501&page=1ABC news:"Wrestling star Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and their 7-year-old son Daniel were found dead in their suburban Atlanta home Monday. Authorities are investigating the deaths as homicides. Benoit, 40, was scheduled to spar against C.M. Punk in a pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston for the Extreme Champion Wrestling title. But Benoit canceled before the event, citing personal reasons. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Benoit was known in the ring as the "Canadian Crippler." In a statement issued following the announcement of the discovery, World Wrestling Entertainment statement following the announcement. "Chris was beloved among his fellow Superstars, and was a favorite among WWE fans for his unbelievable athleticism and wrestling ability. He always took great pride in his performance, and always showed respect for the business he loved, for his peers and towards his fans. This is a terrible tragedy and an unbearable loss. WWE extends its sincere condolences and prayers to the Benoit family and loved ones in this time of tragedy." WWE announced that it would drop its planned line-up on the USA Network to air a three-hour tribute to Chris Benoit. Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told ABC News that Benoit had missed several appointments over the weekend, leading concerned parties to ask police to do a "welfare check." When sheriffs arrived at the Benoit home, they found the wrestler, his wife, and his son dead. There was no sign of gunshot wounds or stabbing, according to Pope. But they are not ruling out other causes, such as poisoning, suffocation, or strangulation. Although Pope noted he was not "confirming" any of these causes, just not ruling them out at this time. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. However, it could be as long as weeks before there is a result. In a sport known for bravado and bullying, Benoit was very much beloved and respected by his peers. He was passionate about his profession and served as a mentor to many younger, up-and-coming performers. As an indication of how much the fans enjoyed him, when the crowd in Houston's Toyota Center learned Sunday night that he wouldn't be there, they chanted, "We want Benoit!" Benoit's wife was also in the wrestling business as a valet and manager. She was known as "Woman." The two met while they both worked for the now-defunct World Championship Wrestling, which was owned by Ted Turner until Vince McMahon's WWE bought it out."

This is just too surreal. Just walking into the bathroom, looking into the mirror and thinking: "Chris Benoit isn't here anymore." This doesn't make sense. I just saw him wrestle last week. There was no retirement, no closure. Just THIS. The man was a role model to me in so many ways. Working hard to achieve your dreams, it sounds so cliche but Benoit LIVED it. He PROVED someone could reach their dreams even when there were doubters or detractors. He DID it. His journey and POISE throughout stuck with me, it helped me through tough times. It always will. Benoit represents never giving up to me and doing one's best no matter what. Those lessons will stay forever, I just wish Benoit was here longer to keep reenforcing them. Not to mention doing that for his two re ning children, friends and family. I can't even imagine how they feel right now. I only met him once and was touched by the appearance. But the people lucky enough to have him in his life for so long must feel indescribably sad now.

Several of the local affiliates are reporting investigators believe Benoit may have killed Nancy and Daniel, before committing suicide.

I think we need more details here. I can't even speculate, I'm just getting nauseas.
Why would Benoit murder his family?
It seems like a lot of the news sites are just reporting what the ones ones have also in terms of the double murder. I think the physical examination of the bodies are not gonna yield the whole story by any stretch either. Something is really fishy here. It seems foul play IS involved, but there may be more to this.
