Ok, so, FPR's tight. And I'm thinking about doing a diary for cards I'd book in Match Make. But, booking regular old promotions is boring, and I don't have any of my guys done to satisfaction to truly start STEVEism R yet. So, I thought in the meantime, I'd tide myself over by making an original promotion, consisting of real wrestlers. And so, I came up with a backstory. (This is the quick and dirty version, once this gets going I'll flesh it out.)
The story begins in April, 2005, shortly after WM21. WWE is making another round of their annual roster cuts, and dozens of talented, underutilized performers fall by the wayside. TNA has a wetdream in the middle of the day, and scurries to sign up each and every one of 'em... and for the most part they succeed. However, four slip through the cracks, and are signed by a mysterious 3rd party. These four are:
-Shelton Benjamin
-Charlie Haas
-Tajiri
-The Hurricane
This 3rd party is a young enthusiast who's virtually unknown in the wrestling world, save for in a few small circles. He goes only by the name "Steven G", and offered his hires very lucrative offers to sway them away from TNA or the independent scene. But the question was, why? Rumors began to circulate about the possiblilty of a third major US wrestling promotion about to surface... But deep down, that was never Steven's plan at all. He'd grew up watching Vince McMahon swallow up the territories, kill off WCW, and pretty much sit back and laugh while TNA claimed to be a "threat" for several years while not really being much of anything at all. Direct competition with WWE at this point would be a waste of time and money. And Steven didn't have THAT much money to spend. But he did have enough to buy five plane tickets.
Even though it seemed weird that this kid had just come out of nowhere and thrown piles of money at them, something about his personable demeanor and knowing grin made the four grapplers want to trust their new boss, so they didn't have MUCH reservation about getting on a plane with him headed for Tokyo, Japan.
Once there, Steven and his charges made their way to the Korakuen Hall, and purchsed five front row seats to that day's All Japan Pro Wrestling show. This has the exact effect Steven wanted it too, as it immeadiately drew the attention of All Japan president, Keiji Mutoh. Mutoh's match that night was sub-par, as he was more concerned with his patrons at ringside than his was his opponents in the ring, and ended up taking the fall for his team after a Flying Sausage by Jamal.
But the loss didn't seem to affect Mutoh at all, as he eagerly went out to ringside immediately afterwards and asked Steven and co. to stay until after the crowd had dispersed to discuss their business in All Japan. His plan had worked to absolute perfection: Steven had his foot in the door.
After the show, he sat down with Mutoh, and gave him his proposal. A new group, mixing the top wrestlers from all around the world, US, Japan, Europe... all coming together to form a truly perfect form of professional wrestling. One that would have true global appeal, and one day would be able to compete directly with the almighty WWE. Mutoh couldn't help but show the intrigue on his face, and said he would consider it. After various (many of them secret) meetings, they agreed to go for it behind closed doors. They began to spread word, secretly raiding promotions of talent they felt were "Attractive, youthful, exciting, unique, and generally positive for televised exposure". Mutoh even raided his own All Japan for a select few, before selling the company to Mitsuharu Misawa. Misawa was angry to find out that Mutoh had let his star protege, Satoshi Kojima in on the plans beforehand; and faced with the prospect of leaving for a new promotion or being absorbed into NOAH, decided instead to return home to New Japan. Mutoh was disappointed, but understood and gave Kojima his blessing.
Finally, in September, the roster had been assembled. TV deals had been signed, not only in Japan, but with digital cable, satellite, and PPV services throughout Europe, Australia, Asia, and North America. Tentative working agreements had been reached with the FWA in England, CMLL in Mexico, IWA in Puerto Rico, Stampede in Canada, and TNA in the US. It was nearly time.
Attitude. Fighting. Lifestyle. New Creation Prowres was finally on the horizon.
Now, the only problem with that story is the part about the roster being assembled. 'Cause it ain't. At least not totally. And that's really the point of this whole thread. I need suggestions about how to fill out my roster. Here's what I have currently:
Heavyweight Regulars
--------------------
Mutoh/Muta
Hiroshi Tanahashi
Toru Yano
Tomoaki Honma
Mohammed Yone
Katsuyori Shibata
Kazunari Murakami
Kohei Sato
Kazushi Miyamoto/The Great Kazushi
Harry Smith
Shelton Benjamin
Charlie Haas
Junior Regulars
---------------
Shuji Kondo
KENTA
Kotaro Suzuki
Minoru Fujita
Ikuto Hidaka
Dick Togo
Billy Ken Kid
Taiji Ishimori
Tajiri
The Hurricane
I count 22... I'd like about 8-10 more, as I'd like around roughly 30 regulars. I just have a few guidelines:
-No WWE guys. If I'd wanted them, I'd have had them cut (I'll bend this one within reason... I may have forgotten somebody I'd like. But not Matt Hardy. I know he won't die. I just don't want him anyway.).
-No TNA guys. As a part of that "working agreement" thing, I may have Styles, Daniels, Joe, etc. pop up on a tour(s). Heck, I might even sim TNA cards with NCP involvement, like Mutoh giving Jarrett a Shining Wizard or something...
-No huge n eventers. This is why I had Kojima go back to NJ. If Mutoh wasn't a founding partner, he wouldn't be working the fed, either. So, even though Kurt Angle would be awesome, I've gotta pass. I wanna build for the future here.
Thanks!
