I agree with Moto here, and the appeal of the DS Lite to ME is as follows: 1) Smaller, thinner, lighter = hence more easily portable. My pockets already have enough bulky junk in them with phones, keys, pods, etc, i'd prefer to have a slim DS if possible! This doesnt excite me from an "omg its so cute, can I pet it?" standpoint, but from a functional standpoint of having it less bulky and more easily portable. Now granted, if its TOO small, it becomes less playable. But there is a happy medium and the original DS felt bulky to me anyway the few times I playe dit. So I'm in favor of the DS Lite! 2) From what i heard, the screens are more brightly lit up. That's cool That all being said, I don't have an original DS. If I had one already, i don't think i'd buy a DS Lite. But for me deciding between the two, I'd totally go for the DS Lite.

Exactly, if we didn't have one, it would be obvious to go for an updated model. But when you already have one, I just don't see how you spend the cash to get the same thing in a smaller case with a slightly brighter light.

People're idiots. It's really that simple. Technophiles that hafta have EVERYTHING that comes out... like the Game Boy micro. Or people that have a PSP, but are going to buy one of the white ones when they come out. Some real dee-dee-dee shit there.
I didn't have one, so, it was a natural decision to go with the lite. -shrug-

Oh, and cuz it's all Apple-looking and glossy. It's da new hawtness, son! My sister has very little gamer street cred. She played and beat Final Fantasy 9, but uh, that doesn't quite count. So, I can use her as a sort of "litmus test" if you will towards new products and such - and she dug teh HELL out of the DS Lite, specifically because of the iPod style casing. The fact that she could play a bunch of Mario games on it was a second plus to her.

Was there actually a problem with the old DS and its backlight?! I played through Mario 64, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Castlevania, Phoenix Wright and gotten a lot of play in Mario Kart DS and of course having FFP in it, and I've never once gone "Shucks, this lighting is killing me!"

Well, in brighter lighting conditions, it would occassionally be hard to see what's going on, because the area lighting would completely wash-out the screens. The lite fixes that for the most part, but if you're going out on a sunny day and decide to bust out the DS lite for whatever reason, it's still going to get washed out, even on the brightest setting.

I just watched the trailer and some gameplay movies from FF III DS. How in the hell is squeenix (or however you fanboys spell it) going to cram all of that FF <3 onto one of those skinny-ass DC cartridges?

Namco already crammed Xenosaga 1 and 2, so why not?

Namco already crammed Xenosaga 1 and 2, so why not? To be fair, Xenosaga 1/2 are just 40 hour movies to begin with.

Namco already crammed Xenosaga 1 and 2, so why not? Let me tell ya somethin', Mean Gene! A big part of them managing to get Xenosaga 1+2 on the DS was taking the huge amounts of cinema scenes present in the two games, and making them dialouge scenes. Brother!

It's still crammed into a small cartridge.
