Just like I planned, I went on break at work (only about two hours after I started, at that, XD), ran next door to Best Buy, and got the album. Lots of people seemed to be buying it, which pleasantly surprised me; didn't think anyone REALLY cared that much about Metallica anymore, especially considering metal isn't exactly "cool" these days.
Anyway, getting to the album itself. I have to hand it to Metallica; they did a damn good job on this album. Okay, it's no Master Of Puppets or Ride The Lightning, but it's very solid, in it's own right. It's not quite all-out thrash metal, like their early albums were, but there are definitely some hints of it in there.
So, which songs are "good", in my opinion? Well, honestly, it'd be easier to name the ones I don't care much for. The Unforgiven III is, I think, the most boring track on the album. Just doesn't do anything at all for me. But again, I'm not a fan of slower, ballad-y songs, so maybe that's just me. I also didn't like The Day That Never Comes originally, for the same reason, but aside from the little bits of cheesyness in the song ("THIS I SWEAR! THIS I SWEAR! THIS! I! SWEEEEEAAAAAAAAARRRR!"), I'm definitely coming around on that one. Also, the instrumental track (Suicide & Redemption) kinda drags on quite a bit; of course, another thing I don't care much for is instrumental tracks, especially long ones. So, it's not necessarily a bad track, it just doesn't hold my interest due to the lack of any vocals.
But the rest of the songs are pretty good, at least in my opinion. Gotta give special mentions to That Was Just Your Life, All Nightmare Long, and especially my favorite track on the album, The Judas Kiss; I love the chorus in that song, man! If my phone won't so shitty (er, well, my service provider, I should say, since they're the ones that lock that feature out), that "BOW DOWN...!" part would SO be my ring tone! ;D
My rating for the album would have to be a solid 8/10. I, personally, think it's a great "comeback" album, but it falls short of being the masterpieces that their earlier works were.
