Take everything that was awesome about Iron Man and combine it with everything that was awesome about The Incredible Hulk. The combination might come close to matching everything that is awesome about The Dark Night. Probably not though.
I'm not going to go into anymore detail than that without possibly spoiling it. But seriously, if you haven't gone to see this amazing movie before next Friday, you have problems.

I just got back from seeing it.
Holy shit.
HOLY F'n SHIT.
People often talk about "best superhero movie". And yanno what, this movie just shattered any limitations about superhero movies. This transcended the genre while elevating it at the same time.
See this. Do not let anyone stand in your way of seeing this.
I'm seriously blown away.

I guess I'm broken...
I loved Heath Ledger in this. I've been a fan of his acting for a while, but this is EASILY his best role ever, and there were more than enough twists and turns with The Joker that it made it fun as hell to watch him on screen.
"Gentlemen, how about a magic trick?"
The rest of the movie felt weak to me, when I'm spending more time eagerly anticipating more Joker antics. The Hong Kong scene, in particular, FIT but I just wanted to see more Joker.
I don't know if I'm expressing it right - that I liked Heath Ledger as the Joker SO MUCH that the rest of the movie suffered because it wasn't as good as he was.

I just got back, and I totally get what you're saying.
Don't get me wrong -- I LOVED the movie. But I still get it.

The Joker had the whole audience in the palm of his hands for every scene, it was a rare, rare situation where one actor has just went all super-saiyan and shined like that. The rest of the cast did a great job (I didn't like Maggie though) but Heath was on a totally higher level. So I can understand how you feel there. Still, I was so into the overall psychology/philosophy of the movie between the characters that I was able to really enjoy things even when Joker wasn't there. Cause he still had his fingerprints on most everything that was happening, he was the catalyst, the mover, the puppet-master. So even when he wasn't there, his effects and impact were, in the form of his intricately set up plans and so it kept things strong to me. But yeah, I agree that the movie was at its absolute BEST when he was on screen, no doubt

Saw it. Gonna go see it again, when I've got better sleep beforehand, before I make any kind of judgment. However, I'm pretty f'n sure it was awesome and that it would be a crying shame if Dark Night doesn't get a big Oscar nod.

The fact that I saw a lot of Ichi the Killer in this made me happy.
Joker had a bunch of Kakihara-like traits, from the slices on his cheeks to the sadistic with others, masochistic with himself and no concern in the world other than his own pleasure stuff.
Batman and Ichi matched up well, too. The unlikely hero, manipulated by those around him into continuing his quest, making compromises and forgetting himself, being completely isolated and can seemingly relate well with his enemy, although will deny it completely.
