www.winnipegsun.com/Sports/OtherSports/2006/09/25/1893763-sun.htmlTony Condello wasn't afraid of setting the proverbial bar too high. When asked what fans could expect from the Oct. 28 Ultimate Cage Wars presents: The War Zone card at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, the longtime promoter could hardly contain his enthusiasm. 'TAPED FOR TV' "It's going to be the biggest show seen here in Winnipeg," said Condello. "You're going to see boxing, kick boxing, mixed martial arts, judo. The whole works." The show will be taped for TV and aired on The Fight Network across North America, likely in November, thanks to a three-year deal Condello has signed. "It's the first time," said Condello, noting previous UCW shows have averaged 2,500 fans and hopes to surpass 3,000 for this show. Alex Popov and Aaron (Double Barrel) Tregear are among the fighters slated to take part in the 10-fight card. But the big news is that UFC superstars Bas Rutten (a former UFC heavyweight champion and three-time undefeated King of Pancrase) and Canadian Georges St. Pierre of Montreal are scheduled to be in attendance.
"Whether they fight is yet to be seen, but they're going to be here live anyway," said Condello. Condello says the ultimate fighting revolution is just scratching the surface. "It's going to be bigger than wrestling," said Condello. "It's just a matter of time." Early bird tickets featuring a 20% discount are available from Sept. 25 to Oct. 15 at Ticketmaster locations or by calling 780-3333, using the password UCW. Ringside VIP tables can be purchased by calling Tony at 229-9173 or Genevieve at 997-1048.

Cool! Sounds like it will be a cool show! Yo Paul, do you guys have the Fight Network in Winterpeg yet? We still don't have it here.

St. Pierre can't find for anybody outside of UFC right now, so he'll probably just be in the crowd, haha.. Or probably in somebody's corner.

Yeah, dudes like St. Pierre and Bas are there to sell tickets. I bought tickets for King of the Cage to see Quinton Jackson, and believe me, he was the highlight of the night. I'll never go to another one unless I know a one of the guys on the card and/or or get free tickets. Pretty cool if you like to collect autographs and the dudes are willing, so if you want a pic with Bas to add to your collection of photos, Paul, I bet you'd get one. Since the show is in Winterpeg, Joe Doerkson will likely be there, too. Man, the 'Peg is turning into the combat capital of, uh, central Canukistan.

Well, Bas could probably still fight, is he under contract to anybody right now?

I don't think so. I think his WFA fight was a one-shot deal, with potential for future fights if he wants them, but I don't think anyone would nail him down with a contract. Really, after seeing his fight in WFA, I wouldn't be surprised if he called it quits for real. He's not one of those egomaniacs who try to keep holding that torch even though they're well past their prime. I know he was "coaching" (more of a mascot, really) in IFL (I think Renzo Gracie, Pat Mileitch, Carlos Newton and a few others also captained teams in that group), but I haven't heard much about that stuff recently.

See, this is why I hate cable networks. They have networks devoted to just about anything here, but they won't pick up something like the Fight Network, and I don't get why. Looking at the ratings that UFC, WWE, and TNA get, you'd think that an entire network devoted to these programs that are always getting good ratings (because, let's face it, we're in such a bad shape that a 1.0 is good, when twenty years ago, a 6.0 would get your programming canceled) would be desirable. But, hey. Whatever.

I thought Bodog (sp?) was full of guys who have never fought before or were amatures? There are a pile of American fighters I've seen in the UFC and Pride before (same with the Red Devil dudes). There's a whole shitload of Bodog crap on tomorrow, this should be fun!
PS: I'd like to get triangle choked by that chick on the Red Devil squad. I bet she could crack your skull with that pair of bowling balls hidden in her pants that she calls an ass! ;D

Okay, so Bodog is the cheesiest fucking thing on Earth. That swarmy douchebag who's on his cell all of the time while groping Vietnamese prostitutes is downright disturbing. What's with all of the tits and ass? Don't get me wrong, you won't see me protesting hot mamas jumping around on the beach in very tiny bikinis on a regular basis, but I want to see some FIGHTS! This is like a cross between girls gone wild, TUF, and the movie Kickboxer!
Good match between two American girls! They went all out, eaisily better than any of the men's matches so far.

"This is like a cross between girls gone wild, TUF, and the movie Kickboxer!"Every BODOG commercial i've seen has made me a wee bit nauseas but I was hoping that maybe they'd actually DELIVER when it came to the show. Looks like they didn't Between the BODOG poker commercials and their attempts at MMA, I get the feeling they are trying to out-Spike, Spike network and out-WWE the WWE. Which means they are basically trying to out-suck the suck. Looks like they accomplished their mission. Still, I envy you for having Fight network. I'm pretty sure my cable provider (and other US ones) won't carry it cause MSG network (and its pro boxer mafia backers) would never allow it.

Yeah, I feel your pain. Pro boxing is such a huge stink-fest and so polluted by the mafia, it's just not fun anymore (unless you're watching Micky Ward vs. Arturo Gatti... Three of the BEST fights in BRUTAL rivalry that you'll ever have the privilege to see. If pro-boxing was all like those fights, it would still be on the map for a lot of casual fans of combat sports.[/tangent]). Depriving the US of a network whose basic fibre is composed entirely of wrestling and MMA (and boxing...) is a fucking crime. You can see the stroke the mafia has by keeping shit like the fight network out and still charging $50.00+ for a boxing PPV full of assholes you've never heard of competing for one of MANY absolutely meaningless title belts. I was really worried when TUF took off like it did that the mafia would become more involved in MMA than they already are (sigh...).
This Bodog thing is very creepy. I'd consider getting the PPV just to watch Red Devil mop the floor with these douche-bags, but that's it. And just the thought of doing anything (like paying for a PPV) to add to the ego of that slimy prick that started this all makes me want to pull all of my finger and toe nails out with pliers in repentance.
One funny side note, Fedor is sitting at ring-side for the fights. You can see his big, commie-red wheels turning the whole time "Exposure, more money for club, slimy capitaleeest peeegs will watch my comrades kill their lazy bourgeois fighters!". Awesomeness! He looked like he was going to fall asleep during the HW fight. The announcers kept endorsing the winner with comments like "My god, the Russian HW is going to have his hands full with this guy!". Yeah, that might be the case if the Bodog final is a hot dog eating contest. The Red Devil guy is 6'6" and has a look about him that makes Ivan Drago look like a reject from the telletubbies auditions.
