Just watched the promo now Wow, pure passion by Heyman. Just amazing intensity And i loved the "sports entertainment" riff he did. And using Tazz in it too. Just a super hot promo, much like the first promo Heyman did during the ECW addition to the WCW Invasion ("Looks like the "Invasion" isn't extreme enough for these guys"). And this past Monday, we got Joey Styles doing a similar riff but bringing his own experiences into it, and yeah, these promos really resonates with me

There was a discussion on another message board I go to, where someone was asking why everyone enjoyed the Styles promo so much, since it's still something that the company is allowing to be said, regardless of if the audience feels the same way or not. And, most people just seemed to enjoy the fact that the company was acknowledging these feelings, even if in some small way. It won't change the way WWE runs things, but, what can ya do?

Any company that OPENLY acknowledges dissenting opinions gets some respect from me. Any company that sees that its ideas have competition and aren't willing to just squelch the ideas and the fact people might like them. It takes balls to do that and go beyond the "companyspeak" marketing approach. To admit that maybe there are things they do that not everyone likes and that competing concepts might even have acceptance and merit. So i really applaud Joey for writing the promo and WWE for approving and giving it a VERY good time to air.
The fact is, if WWE wants to JUST be about sports entertainment, fine, its their company. (In fact, a lot of my general criticism towards them has to do with the fact that i dont believe they are often being "entertaining" in their own desired Sports entertaining way, rather then railing on them for not producing wrrestling. Sometimes i'll say Carlito before Giant Singh, rather then Benoit before Giant Singh.)
But if they acknowledge that a lot of fans want a more wrestling based product, then i gotta give them credit. I really do. Vince is often seen as a megalomaniac in terms of power and cutting off alternative wrestling ideas, but this time...this time he did things right. At least up to this point with the Styles promo and ECW.
Especially considering WWE and Vince often jump through hoops just to silence dissenting fans. (Whether they be ECW lovers or WWE Cena haters). So for them to allow Joey to say all that (and Joey wrote the promo), it does a lot to extend goodwill to fans.

On the flipside, WWE is a company that loves to control the crowds that attend its events. They know that people know about the return of ECW, so their goal right now is to try and do everything they can in order to help facilitate that return. So, having Styles say what's on the mind of so many people, badmouthing the heel Vince McMahon, mocking the fact that the company has tied his hands at his job... all of that got the fans behind him so that, when he returns to announce ON2, he'll have the people solidly behind him.
Add to that event the fact that Rob Van Dam will be challenging John Cena (or, supposedly, John Bradshaw Layfield) for the WWE Championship (/World Heavyweight Championship) at ON2, and they're doing their best to get a lot of people to pay attention to their Extreme Championship Wrestling.

Yeah, But Vince is never too hot on "giving the rub" to another promotion, even one he owns (look at how WCW was treated). So for him to allow Joey to take shots at WWE, it still says a lot. Yeah, they want ECW to get over so that they can make money and be credited with ECW's future success, but the fact that they are doing anything to put WWE's abilities to doubt, well, i'll give them credit for it. Considering how hard they've been pushing Cena as a face despite the crowd reaction, its funny to see them pull a 180 in terms of ECW and allow Joey to point out WWE's issues or, at least, the alternative viewpoint to WWE. So even though it is to help get ECW over, WWE isn't always that hot on ideas that cast WWE in doubt (even if thats just to acknowledge competitive ideas) to get another promotion over. Now, of course, I don't expect Vince to come out next Monday and start to praise TNA's X-Division

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that unless plans change very late, WWE will soon announce that the new Extreme Championship Wrestling brand will have a weekly timeslot on the Sci-Fi Channel starting in mid or late June. This network might seem a strange choice to wrestling fans. However, with WWE programming on the USA Network and that network owned by NBC Universal, it would only make sense that WWE would make efforts to get the new ECW brand on networks under NBC Universal such as the Sci-Fi Channel. It was also reported by PWInsider.com that according to a strong source with NBC Universal, negotiations for the ECW timeslot were not final and re n ongoing in regards to if ECW will air on Sci-Fi or the USA Network. Either way, an official press release from NBC Universal is expected within the next week and more should be known by that time.

ECW used to be on BRAVO... Sci-Fi doesn't seem strange at all after that.

Didn't Robocop once show up in WCW? Maybe ECW can bring him back to appear relevant to Sci Fi Either him or Vader with his old mask

* Robocop to HHH holding the WWEff title* Drop it! I'd love to see Ric Flair in a Robocop outfit doing one of his classic, WCW-style promos, complete with the strutting, bouncing off of the ropes -> Break falls, WHOOOOOs, and telling fatty in front row to shut up before he takes the dude's old lady to Space Mountain.

I dunno, dood. I think it'd be weird to see Robocop in a suit, just because it's not a Ric Flair promo if he's not half-killing himself to take the jacket off to throw around.

I really miss his late WCW promos, I think that was eruely Flair at his most psychotic. I still remember the "I wanna be like Dave! I wanna be like Dave! I wanna be like Dave! I wanna be like Dave! WHOOOOOOOO!" promo (about his son) in WCW, that shit had me on the floor, crying like a two year old with drawers full of shit on a hot day!

In a move that basically confirms ECW will be on the SciFi channel, the channel has added an "Extreme Championship Wrestling" section to their official website's message board. The message board can be seen at this link. It is very possible that once WWE gets wind of this news, that the section of the board will be removed, as WWE has not made this partnership official yet. There is also speculation that Tuesday at 10p.m could be the timeslot for the new ECW, however this is far from confirmed.
